Let's quickly look at some of the trends and developments that are shaping the future of blogging, especially after the advent of regenerative IA such as ChatGPT.  Let's then see how we can ride the wave. How to use chatGPT effectively One of the biggest recent trends in blogging is the rise of video content. The trend is not that recent but now it has established itself too well. With platforms like YouTube, Instagram and TikTok, video blogging is becoming increasingly popular among bloggers. Many traditional bloggers have turned to video blogging, but many more have started blogging with vid...

Numbers have spoken, and it is evident that blogs that post more frequently do much better than those that do not. This probably has a lot to do with the modern audience’s constant desire to be on top of things. If a blog does not post for a while, it may seem like its content is less relevant and up to date, no matter what the subject is. Of course, if you are just one person running a blog alone, then do not run yourself ragged. It is still better to post...

Regularly back up your blog or website. Depending solely on web host can prove fatal!

Image
This post is more on sharing thoughts on importance of periodic back up of one's website or blog beyond what is provided by the web host. I have given links at the bottom for actual back up procedure to be followed for different types of blogs/ websites. All web hosting companies and their plans have the provision to back up your website/ blog. So, why should you bother about backing up the site separately. Why take the trouble? First thing first. Yes, it can be cumbersome to take full back up of your site if it has become quite big and has many types of resources. But that answers the question: Whey you have a blog with just a few posts and you have not invested in special themes and plugins/ customization, you will perhaps not mind much if the blog is lost to hackers or due to a mishap in the host's location. However, when your blog or website is full of resources, its loss will be a huge setback to you. So, the botheration in backing up the blog or website, even i...

If you are new to the world of managing a website or blog, words such as HTTP and HTTPS might confuse you. So, this article starts with the very basics such as "what is HTTPS". If you are already there on the scene for long but have ignored implementing HTTPS on your website or blog, you better brush up your knowledge and install HTTPS on your website without losing time. For easy understanding, I have broken this article into sections. You can jump to a section by clicking on the link here: What is HTTPS? What is SSL? How does HTTPS work? Free dictionary and thesaurus app online and offline for content creators, bloggers

Image
There are many dictionaries available free on the web. Some are available online and some can be installed on  the  computer and can be used offline . Of course, word processing programs come loaded with a dictionary. For example, Microsoft Office has an in-built dictionary which you can access by right-clicking on a word in Word, Power Point, etc. New versions of MS Office are quite intuitive when it comes to suggesting corrections. MS Word also supplies a list of synonyms through right click.  But, for writers and serious bloggers, nothing beats a professional thesaurus* that is available to them at all times. That's what prompted us to introduce such a tool, Wordweb , to you. It is a free dictionary app - with great thesaurus inbuilt. You can download Wordweb from its site free of cost. Once installed, it sits quietly on your system tray and can be called from a document by clicking control+right click ! If calling another app from a document feels like a bothe...

Open link in a new tab - a good practice for websites, blogs

Image
Users prefer to open links in a new tab When you place a link on your website or blog, it can either open in the same tab, thus replacing the open webpage, or it opens in a new tab or a new window.  When tabs first appeared on web browsers, they were lapped up by people though they looked annoying to some. And when tabs had become a norm on desktops, came mobile browsing in a big way. Initial mobile phone browsers did present a problem when a link opened in a new tab.  Some diehard fans of 'single window, single tab' experience still don't like links opening in a new tab but the majority find it a better option. The older lot also argue that tabs are being abused by many advertisers and therefore should not be there. You by chance hover the cursor over an ad or a text link and it quickly opens the ad in a different tab; not only that, the ad tab opens on top of the genuine tab. But I believe that such obtrusive ads can come in many other ways; only because some ...

Topmost blog design advice ever! When you think of design of your blog, or any other type of website, what comes to your mind? Its appeal? Colors, backgrounds and fonts? Columns and their content? Widgets and plugins? I think, the best web designing advice anyone can give you is that Your blog or website must have great navigation: visitors should be able to easily find what they are looking for. Its topmost content must come on top: it must show up at the first opportunity. During our review of blogs and compilation of blog directories, we look at thousands of blo...
