Protect your inactive Google account soon. At least save your data.

Google is set to delete inactive accounts starting December1, raising concerns about potential data loss of Google account holders. This deletion process targets accounts that have not been operated in the last two years, putting content stored in associated products like Gmail, Drive, Docs, Meet, Calendar, Photos, and YouTube at risk. To safeguard your account from deletion, it's crucial to sign in before the impending deadline this Friday. Google emphasizes that an account is considered active and exempt from deletion if it has been accessed recently. However, if your account falls into the inactive category, take immediate action to prevent any data loss. For those who wish to retain their data without keeping the inactive account, Google provides an option to back up your content. Utilize the Google Takeout page to download and export your data, including folders, documents, and media. This precautionary step ensures that even if your account becomes inactive, your valuable da

Status of blogging in India: a quick appraisal in mid-2023

Image
After two decades of constant rise, blogging in its original form has plateaued all over the world, and India is no exception. For self expression, content sharing and social engagement, individuals have hopped over to other platforms such as social networks and content sharing platforms (Facebook, Twitter/ X, Instagram, Pinterest, YouTube, etc.) in addition to instant messaging platforms/ apps (e.g. WhatsApp and Telegram). In fact, content creators do a form of blogging on these platforms. Mainstream blogging is not growing, and in fact it is declining in terms of numbers. However, it has evolved into a powerful tool for various purposes, including journalism, marketing, education, and activism.  Indian blogging has transformed from personal to professional in a big way in recent years. That has led to a greater proportion of well-maintained blogs, blog monetization and blogs as a medium of commercial/ corporate communication. Individual bloggers who have professionalized their blogs

Directory of Best Indian Blogs 2023 (13th edition) released today.

We are glad to release the latest (13th) edition of the Directory of Best Indian Blogs.  Though there has been small change in the way the directory of best blogs is compiled every year, we have made a big change in selection of blog for the directory since 2022. Going by the current trends in blogging - in which personal blogging is giving way to commercial blogging, and blogging is going much beyond the traditional sense of blogging - we include all types of websites in the directory if they (or a section of theirs) is maintained as a 'blog'.  Though good blogs are repeated year after year (and they should, no?), each edition is a fresh, de novo , compilation. Though the term blogging* now includes all forms of digital/ online self-expression and content-creation, we are unable to include video blogs, podcasts and other social sharing content (Instagram, Pinterest, TikTok, etc) since we are yet to find a common denominator to juxtapose these 'blogs' along with traditi

Will blogging survive ChatGPT? Can you use ChatGPT for blogging?

Image
Blogging has come a long way since the days of LiveJournal and Xanga. Today, it's a powerful tool for sharing information, building a community, and even making a living. But what does the future hold for blogging? Let's quickly look at some of the trends and developments that are shaping the future of blogging, especially after the advent of regenerative IA such as ChatGPT.  Let's then see how we can ride the wave. How to use chatGPT effectively One of the biggest recent trends in blogging is the rise of video content. The trend is not that recent but now it has established itself too well. With platforms like YouTube, Instagram and TikTok, video blogging is becoming increasingly popular among bloggers. Video content is definitely more engaging than text, it's also more easily shareable and discoverable on social media, and it surpasses the limitations of written word. Many traditional bloggers have turned to video blogging, but many more have started blogging with vid

How to easily improve SEO by using Google's experience rating update

Image
In this small article, we tell you how to make use of the  signal of 'experience' for your website's search engine optimization.  And that is not difficult. You do not need to be an SEO expert to implement this. Google now gives high importance to creator experience If you are even slightly interested in search engine optimization (SEO), you would have learnt that Google has an age-old concept of E-A-T (expertise, authority, trust) for judging the quality of websites. Recently it said, it has included one more 'E' to this to account for experience.  You can visit the announcement at this link to Google announcement on experience added to quality rating guidelines   That means, Google now considers web content that has been created by experienced creators as more important as compared to that created by others.  But how does Google get the signal for experience?
