Blogging has come a long way since the days of LiveJournal and Xanga. Today, it's a powerful tool for sharing information, building a community, and even making a living. But what does the future hold for blogging? Let's quickly look at some of the trends and developments that are shaping the future of blogging, especially after the advent of regenerative IA such as ChatGPT.

One of the biggest recent trends in blogging is the rise of video content. The trend is not that recent but now it has established itself too well. With platforms like YouTube, Instagram and TikTok, video blogging is becoming increasingly popular among bloggers. Video content is definitely more engaging than text, it's also more easily shareable and discoverable on social media, and it surpasses the limitations of written word. Many traditional bloggers have turned to video blogging, but many more have started blogging with video itself.
Another trend that's shaping the future of blogging is the rise of micro-blogging. Micro-blogging platforms like Twitter and Instagram allow users to share short-form content, like text and images, in real-time. This has led to the rise of micro-blogging as a way for bloggers to share quick updates, behind-the-scenes content, and other types of short-form content. Micro-blogging is easy for the creator and the audience - and it perfectly suits the depleting attention span and a feel of 'I don't have much time' all the time. By leveraging micro-blogging platforms, traditional bloggers too can keep their followers engaged and build a stronger sense of community around their content.
One of the most important developments in blogging is the rise of Artificial Intelligence (AI). Podcasts are mostly audio blogs, and they can be accessed while traveling, doing household chores, even in the middle of a boring meeting.

Blogging of late is focused on earning more than expressing oneself or building a community. The social aspect of blogging has mostly been taken over by social networking and media sharing. When it comes to making money, it is clear that blogging is becoming increasingly competitive. There are more bloggers than ever before, and more content being produced every day. I think, to the extent that AI facilitates in creating, shaping, and optimizing content, it will help bloggers and users alike; however, if more and more bloggers use AI to generate content and push it as such in their blogs or vlogs or podcasts, that will be counter-productive. From a user's perspective, much of blogging will lose appeal - and that is a bright silver-lining for serious and passionate bloggers. Users fed up with AI-generated content everywhere will look for content that is human-generated, content that is produced with one's heart into it.
I have gone through hundreds of articles and videos advising how bloggers (and other content creators) can use ChatGPT to generate blog posts, scripts, etc and make money. I reckon, this is going to soon flood the web space with machine-produced content. It will not be more trashy than carelessly produced content that fills the blogosphere right now, but it's lack of spirit will be palpable after a few years if not months.
Bloggers who are passionate about their subject and their craft will keep having a loyal readership/ audience. If you are a genuine blogger, make good use of Chat GPT and other AI tools for getting content ideas, creating content, research, SEO, etc., but do not become slave of the technology and do not serve machine-made product to your patrons.
After publication of this post, some good but many more disconcerting aspects of ChatGPT have come to the fore. I will keep mentioning important once here before writing another detailed article on ChatGPT and similar other AI tools.
It is reported that ChatGPT has been banned in schools and colleges in many countries so that students do not abuse the tool for doing homework, assignments, projects, etc.
There is also a report that candidates taking competitive exams in India have been warned by an agency. It is not understood how examinees would use ChatGPT unless they use for cheating, which in any cases is not allowed.
In Italy ChatGPT is reported to have been banned more broadly by the nation's data-protection agency on the ground of threat to privacy.
In Belgium, one person is reported to have committed suicide after chatting on climate change with with a ChatGPT-like chatbot. Reminds of the 2013 Sci-fi film Her, in which the main character falls in love with an operating system.
