A blog remembered in its death(?)

On 9th March 2015, one of pioneering technology blogs, Gigaom.com, put a number of updates as in the preceding days. Things looked perfectly normal.

Then, before downing shutters for the day, its management wrote a special 'About Gigaom', announcing, "Gigaom recently became unable to pay its creditors in full... All operations have ceased. We do not know at this time what the lenders intend to do with the assets or if there will be any future operations using those assets..." It is reported that this multi-million website had run into debt that it was unable to pay from its operations, i.e. mainly curation of tech news and research.

That looks to be the end of this hugely popular site [over 6.5 million monthly unique readers, as mentioned on the site] that started as a blog.

Its founder, Om Malik, left it a year back. In his personal blog, Om has given a philosophical-cum-emotional farewell to Gigaom: "...Business, much like life, is not a movie and not everyone gets to have a story book ending... There will be time for postmortems, but not today. Today, I want to thank all... Goodnight sweetheart, I still love you!"

ITB thought, the demise of a multi-dimensional web property that started as a blog [and the site's homepage still has the spirit of a blog] deserves an adieu from IndianTopBlogs. We believe that Gigaom's management and creditors will be able to quickly revive it with its great resource and talent base. But it might not look like a blog anymore.
